Welcome to my blog!

I will be posting information responding to commonly asked questions about paying for eldercare with the Veterans and widow's pension benefit and Medicaid.

Let me know if there is question you would like answered. Here's the first one:

When a widow of a Veteran remarries and her second husband dies, is she eligible for a widow's pension based on her first husband's service?

The answer is no. Once a widow remarries, she can no longer claim a pension from her first husband. If her second husband was also a Veteran, she can make a claim based on his service.

Currently, the maximum VA widow's pension benefit is $1,056/month.

The answer is no. If her second husband was a Veteran, she can apply based on his service. Once she remarries, she cannot make a claim for her first marraige. Of course, if the second husband was a Veteran, she can make a claim based on his service.
